If you’re pricing this against a kit from another brand, you need to add the cost of at least one M18 battery and a charger to make a fair comparison.

That framing matters because the tool itself is hard to argue with. It’s one of the most compact full-power impact drivers on the market, and what Milwaukee has done with the four-mode drive system is worth understanding before you compare raw specs with anything else.

How much grunt does it have?

The max torque is 226Nm. Torque is twisting force — the number that decides whether the fastener keeps moving or the tool bogs down and strips the head. 226Nm sits firmly in the strong-but-not-the-highest territory for compact 18V drivers: the DeWalt DCF860N runs 282Nm at a similar price, for comparison. But 226Nm is plenty for the work most people will put through an impact driver — structural screws, lag bolts, coach screws into pine framing, decking fasteners. The only ceiling you’d run into is with large-diameter bolts in heavy steel, or seized fasteners that need serious nut-breaking torque.

The four drive modes matter as much as the headline number. Mode 1 is the precision setting — lower speed and torque, designed for small screws in finished timber or where you can’t afford to overtighten. Mode 2 is a general-purpose mid-range setting. Mode 3 opens to full speed and full torque. Mode 4 is adaptive: it adjusts speed, torque, and impact rate on its own in response to what the fastener is doing. It runs fast down the shank of a long screw and backs off as the head seats. In practice that means fewer buried screws and less trigger management on repetitive fastening. What’s it like to use?
