Toolnerd ("we", "us", "our") operates toolnerd.com.au. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
We collect very little, and we don't ask you to create an account or hand over personal details to read the site.
- Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to put in the message.
- Analytics data. Like most websites, we use analytics tools that collect pseudonymous usage information — pages visited, approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. This is used in aggregate to understand what's useful and improve the site. It is not used to personally identify you.
- Technical data. Our hosting provider automatically logs standard request information (such as IP address and timestamps) for security and to keep the site running.
Cookies and tracking
We and our third-party providers use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and for affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the retailer may set a cookie so the sale can be attributed to us. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may work less well.
Third parties we use
- Google Analytics — website analytics. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy.
- Amazon Associates — our affiliate program. When you follow an affiliate link, Amazon's own privacy policy and cookies apply to your activity on their site.
- Cloudflare — hosting and content delivery, including basic security logging.
We may add other affiliate programs or service providers over time, and will update this policy accordingly.
How we use your information
To respond to your enquiries, to understand and improve how the site is used, to earn affiliate commissions on qualifying purchases, and to keep the site secure. We do not sell your personal information, and we don't send marketing emails (we don't run a mailing list).
Disclosure
We don't disclose your personal information except to the service providers above (acting on our behalf), or where required by law. None of our providers are located solely in Australia, so some data may be processed overseas (for example, in the United States) under those providers' own safeguards.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing admin@toolnerd.com.au. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can contact us first, and you also have the right to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Children
This site is intended for adults and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
